Best Soccer Drills to Teach Soccer Skills Soccer drills that Involve controlled repetition are the best way to teach soccer skills. To be a good soccer player requires the ability to perform certain skills instinctively while under pressure and playing at Game Speed. Dribbling a soccer ball and being able to pass the ball while running are 2 examples. Because real soccer matches are chaotic, fast and played under pressure, a player needs to be able to play fast while under pressure in chaotic game conditions. Our soccer drills train players to play fast while under pressure in Game Realistic conditions.
Soccer Drills to Teach Players to Be More Aggressive I believe hustling and aggressive play are two of the most important things a soccer coach can teach his or her players. Soccer players who hustle and play aggressively will have more satisfaction and enjoyment from playing than those who don’t. I'm not talking about encouraging dirty, dangerous or unfair play, I'm only talking about encouraging players to hustle, be brave and do their best. If your team doesn’t hustle and play aggressively, you will almost always lose to a team that is significantly more aggressive. When I refer to aggressive play, I mean hustling, not being afraid of making contact and “winning” the “50/50 balls”, which are the loose balls that either team has an equal chance of winning (it’s difficult to win these if you are afraid of contact). The most aggressive team will usually “win” most of the 50/50 balls and will usually win the game. It is critical that your defenders are tough and not afraid of contact. If a player is afraid of contact, you will give up many goals if you play him or her at Fullback or Sweeper. Any soccer player who is afraid of contact is at a disadvantage. Ideally, you want to teach your players to not only be brave and unafraid of contact, but also to hustle and be aggressive about going to the ball and to win loose balls. This is often not easy to teach. Click the link above to go to an article about soccer drills that can teach soccer players to be aggressive and not being afraid of contact.
Teach Players to Spread Out & Not Bunch Up Soccer Drill (Ages 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, U8, U10, U12) This soccer drill teaches soccer players not to Bunch Up and to Spread Out to Attack so they Create Width and Open Space, and starts to teach "Movement Off the Ball" and "Team Attacking".
Soccer Bees Soccer Drill ™ (age 3, 4, 5, 6, U4, U5, U6) A simple, fun soccer drill that is a game. Players buzz like bees and kick the ball at the “giants” (the parents who happened to be attending that practice) to try to “sting” them. For soccer players age 3, 4, 5, 6, U4, U5, U6.
Passing While Running & Aggressive Receiving Soccer Drill (U8, U10, U12, U14 to Adult) This soccer drill is a Practice Game and is my favorite for players U8 and older. It teaches passing while running, Aggressive Receiving, speed dribbling, turning, first-touch control, one-touch play, and teaches receivers to move to the ball and how to receive the ball at game speed and while under pressure, which I call 'Aggressive Receiving'. You will see fast results from this soccer drill.
Soccer Drill to Teach Players How to Steal the Ball, How to Withstand a Shoulder Tackle & Aggressive Play (U8, U10, U12, U14 to Adult) This soccer drill teaches a legal Shoulder Tackle, challenging for the ball to slow the attack, stealing the ball, "strength on the ball" to maintain possession while dribbling, shielding the ball to maintain possession when challenged and aggressive play. In real soccer games, it is critical for players to be able to challenge for the ball and also to be able to retain possession of the ball when they are dribbling. The opposing players will try to use a “Shoulder Tackle” to push your players off the ball when they are dribbling, so they can steal the ball or slow down your attack. Your players need to learn what is called "Strength on the Ball" so they aren"t easily pushed off the ball when dribbling. Young players often aren’t used to physical play, but the fact is that the more physical team will usually win, so you must teach your players how to be physical so they have a chance to be successful. This game teaches defenders how to legally use their shoulder to push an opponent off the ball, which is called a “Shoulder Tackle” (and also called a “Shoulder Charge”) and it also teaches players how to avoid being pushed off the ball while dribbling (which is called “Strength on the Ball”). It will get your players used to contact, which is very important, and teach them to play more aggressively. Soccer is a physical game and by U8 the more physical teams will start to have an advantage. Most parents prefer the word "brave" to "aggressive", so it might be better to talk about teaching players to be "brave". If your players aren't prepared and get pushed off the ball, they will get frustrated. This game teaches players how to shield the ball and to have "strength on the ball" so they can retain possession, and how to legally try to steal the ball from the opposing player who has the ball. When you read the Testimonials you will see that is works. I get lots of letters from coaches about how valuable this game is.

Control Dribbling, Speed Dribbling, Turning & Breakaways Soccer Drill (U8, U10, U12, U14 to Adult) This soccer drill is the best way to teach control dribbling in traffic, acceleration and turning while under pressure. It is also a great warm-up. It is easy to set up and it can be played 4 times in about 10 minutes.

Soccer Positions Trying to figure out the best soccer positions for your players isn’t only about winning, it is also about putting young players in a position they enjoy and where they can be successful. Teaching soccer positions to young players involves a lot more than randomly assigning each player a position. How to teach positions is one of the most difficult tasks a new coach faces. How to teach positions is one of the most difficult tasks a new coach faces.
Soccer Formations The easiest thing you can do to cause a big improvement in your team’s play is to change to a Soccer Formation and Style of Play that gives your team the best chance of being successful. The problem may be that you are trying to make your team fit a soccer formation and style of play instead of using a formation and style of play that fits your team. The formations that work for Select or Travel teams usually don’t work well for Recreational teams. This article explains why and has a checklist that will help you select the soccer formation that is best for your team.
Soccer Rules The official soccer rules are called the “Laws of the Game”.

We start every practice with Dribble Around the Cone & Pass Relay Race and the Shoulder Tackle game, those are great soccer drills.
